PS4 Online Multiplayer Free This Weekend

on -

Cancel all your weekend plans, gamers. Park yourself in front of the TV, and get
ready for some multiplayer action.
Sony is bringing back its free online multiplayer perk for all PS4 owners starting this Friday. Normally you'd need a $10 monthly PlayStation Plus subscription to play online, but this weekend all PS4 owners can join the action.
The free multiplayer access begins Friday, Dec. 11 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific and extends through Sunday, Dec. 13 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. To get started, just log on to the PlayStation Network, launch a multiplayer game, and you'll automatically have access. Rest assured there's no membership commitment required to try out online multiplayer during the promotion.
"What better way to check out the recently released free DLC Star Wars Battlefront Battle of Jakku before the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Sony's Andy Lum wrote in a blog post.
Aside from online multiplayer on PS4, PlayStation Plus gives you access to free games, up to 3GB of online game-save storage, and as much as 75 percent off in the PlayStation Store. Sony previously offered free online multiplayer access last year ahead of the launch of itsPlayStation TV.
Meanwhile, Sony also this week released a standalone PlayStation Messages app for iOS and Android devices, which lets you send messages to your PS Network friends from your phone. The app shows your full friends list, sorted either alphabetically or by online status. It will also show any Favorite Groups you've added to message several people at once. You can swap text or voice messages, and even amuse (or harass) your friends with stickers and attachments.
