Fallout 4 Far Harbor has suffered serious leaks ahead of its official Bethesda DLC launch

A huge amount of information has been released about Far Harbor before its launch on May 19 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, ranging from its official PS4 Trophy list, to other more serious story leaks.

There will be sides to pick and GIANT enemies to slay in the Fallout 4 DLC update, with some of those weapons that were found in game files but never made it into the vanilla version of Fallout 4, set to be introduced.

From what we have learnt so far, Far Harbor will have at least 20 locations spread across a large island map, three settlement areas that can be built on, and five new quests.

The game will also supply a large amount of side quests and include more skill check options, which were largely absence from the original release.

While all this is pretty minor stuff, Fallout 4 Far Harbor suffered much worse when a beta version of the game managed to be torrented before its official release.

According to Kotaku, the game was downloaded at least 800 times via the DLC modding hub Nexus.

“[The mod] was taken down because Bethesda asked us to as it contained copyrighted material that was uploaded without permission from the original creator (in this case, Bethesda),” Robin Scott, owner of Nexus Mods, told Kotaku.

“Such actions are a flagrant breach of our well known strict rules.”

Bethesda, meanwhile, have done their best to remove these leaks and have even revealed what fans must do before they can reach the new Maine location.

Players will need to complete the “getting a clue” quest in the main story, it's essential to do this as completing it allows you access to Nick Valentine as a companion.

Nick, the synth private eye, is set to play a major role in Far Harbor, where a battle is brewing between several factions spread across the island.

"This is a game for PlayStation as much as it is for Xbox as much as it is for PC."
Sony's PlayStation 4 is leading the current-generation sales race, but one of this year's biggest shooters, Battlefield 1, has aligned with Microsoft's Xbox One for a co-marketing deal. During EA's Investor Day briefing this week, EA was asked if it had any fears about this arrangement impacting sales.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson said PlayStation gamers won't be turned off by the fact that the game carries Xbox branding. Chief marketing officer Chris Bruzzo agreed.
"This is a game for PlayStation as much as it is for Xbox as much as it is forPC," he said. "I don't seem any limiters to our ability reach a really broad audience of gamers across the whole shooter spectrum."

These kinds of arrangements are commonplace in games. Sony has co-marketing deals in place for Star Wars: Battlefront, the Call of Duty franchise, and Destiny, while Microsoft and Bethesda partnered to promote Fallout 4.

Wilson said when a game has some kind of arrangement in place for a console you might not own, it can in fact raise awareness for the game in question across the board.

"Our console partners want to stand right next to the biggest and best games in the industry," Wilson said. "Typically, what we see is that just aids awareness. It aids awareness whether you're a PC gamer or an Xbox gamer or a PlayStation gamer."

Microsoft and Sony secure these co-marketing deals because they believe it will drive "disproportionate awareness around the game as it relates to their particular console," Wilson said. However, this may not actually be the case.

"But what we have seen--and we've seen the analytics against it--is if you're a PlayStation gamer, you do not reject it because it is brought to you by a potential console partner. You understand deeply that it's also available on your console. And what we get is just a multiplier effect of greater awareness in the marketplace."

Battlefield 1 launches on October 21, though people with an EA/Origin Access membership or those who pick up the deluxe edition can get in on October 18. Additionally, a beta will be held sometime before launch.

Battlefield 1 Xbox One Branding Doesn't Turn Off PS4 Gamers, EA Says

GTA 5's popular multiplayer mode will see new DLC content arrive soon

Rockstar have reiterated their commitment to bring new DLC content to GTA Online, following weeks of providing singular vehicle packs, and other small groups of in-game items.

The studio say they hope to use recent fan feedback to shape what happens in GTA Onlinenext, with two new updates coming to the game soon.

Both will look to expand on Grand Theft Auto 5’s most popular multiplayer aspects, the building of new content by fans, and the game’s freemode.

Cunning stunts will expand GTA 5's racing and stunting scene with new creative and fun games.

This is an aspect of the game where players have really excelled, the chance of providing new tools will make a lot of map creators very happy.

Fresh stunt-ready vehicles and gear will be added too, along with props for the Creator Tool and “other gameplay possibilities that will surely defy imagination.”

One aspect of the game that doesn't look to be expanding is official mod support, if Rockstar really wanted to win plaudits, they would allow for offline mod support for those with the creative talent.
Further adventures in finance and felony will allows players to use their Organizations for something more than just protection, it will open up contraband trafficking which can be run from new properties.

Fans will be able to manage inventory directly from their HQ, buy and sell produce, make pickups and prepare for raids.

Rockstar have also confirmed that more news will be released soon about what they have planned in the weeks and months covering summer.

Until then, fans can pass the time by partaking in the new GTA 5 update Combat Week.

Developer Will Sykes has announced Perfect Universe, an upcoming PlayStation 4 mini game collection that spans a range of genres set in a monochrome 2.5D moon-like environment. Gravity is at the center of all the mini games, which include platforming, racing, volleyball and football games. Over on the PlayStation blog, Sykes explained:

In Perfect Universe each level of the game has a varying strength of gravitation pull which makes for some awesome crazy physics. I really wanted to build a game that’s fun to play but also different – it’s easy to learn but hard to master due to these random gravity factors. The unpredictable force of the gravity means that if you time it just right, you can glide from planet to planet and it’s both frustrating and addictive to play.

Perfect Universe comes with nine levels – three single-player and six local multiplayer. The single-player levels include:
Perfect Moon: Enjoy some classic platforming as you control a man collecting stars
Moon Life: Control the feet of an alien in this QWOP-like game – much harder than it sounds
Star Light: Fly your rocket ship through the galaxy in a Thrust-like game where you’ll soon learn that you need less power and more placement to navigate the tracks

Multiplayer levels are as follows:
Moon Golf: An interplanetary game of golf
Gravity Dodge: A four-player game of alternative gravity dodgeball
Balloon Pop: Scramble to pop more balloons than anyone else!
Rocket Ball: Football, but with rockets!
Moon Volley: A game of volleyball around a little planet
Space Race: Rocket race against friends

We’re told that Perfect Universe is out “very soon.” In the meantime, you can check out a trailer above.

Koei Tecmo’s producer, Hisashi Koinuma and director, Tomoyuki Kitamuta have recently revealed some news about their upcoming Attack on Titan game in an interview. The interview revealed that the game will have 10 playable characters including Eren, Mikasa, and Levi. Moreover, the game’s story will follow the first season of the anime. However, while the story will follow the anime, players without knowledge of the “original work” will be able to follow the plot just fine.
After completing the game, players will unlock a Warrior style Free Mode which will allow them to replay stages as their favorite characters. According to the gameplay style, all characters in Attack on Titan will have a movement and a combat mode which players will be able to switch between with R1.

The interview also revealed that Koei Tecmo have replicated the Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear’s wire shot pendulum-like movements in the source material. When using the Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear, players will also be able to shoot the wire. Koei Tecmo further stated that players can kill Titans by themselves as it’s quicker to kill them with back-up. They will also be able to give basic instructions or even direct orders depending on the game’s story.
Game Features listed below
The 10 playable characters are Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Krista, Sasha, Connie, Jean, Levi, Hange, and Erwin.
The story will include everything from the start to end of the first season from the anime, and the characters you control will change depending the part of the story.
All the scenes from the original work and highlights for all the characters will be there to check out in proper events.
The game is made in a way that even those who’ve yet to check out the story of Attack on Titan will be able to get a good understanding of it by playing.
There will also be original episodes that aren’t in the original work. These will focus more on the side characters from the story, and they’ve been supervised by the author and editor to make sure that it goes well with the story of Attack on Titan.
Other than the story mode, there’s an “Outside Walls Investigation Mode.” This mode will let you take on different missions as any character you’d like, and will be used to level up your characters and gather material for weapons and corps funds.

After beating the story mode you’ll get to take on stages with any characters in a free mode, similar to the Musou series.
In battles you’ll advance through the stage as you work your way to the objective. During this time, you’ll get random sub-missions such as “save ___ who got in trouble” appear. Additionally, there will be secret missions that Koei Tecmo say is part of the fun to discover.
Since taking on a Titan by yourself could be dangerous, it’ll be an important strategy to fight alongside allies.
You can give simple commands to your allies that orders them to fight the Titan that you’re fighting or split up and take on their own Titans. Depending on the characters, you’ll also get to give direct orders.
While moving with the 3D Maneuver Gear, you can travel anywhere that can be shot with the wire. The square button shoots the wire and the X button is for using the boost.
The wire automatically shoots and launches you towards that direction. Using the left stick, you can aim towards the direction you want to fly.
Since the 3D Maneuver Gear comes with a great sense of speed there was a problem with 3D motion sickness, but this issue has been solved.
Characters have movement mode and battle mode. Pressing the R1 button near a Titan will put you in battle mode. Once you’re in battle mode, you’ll get to shoot the wires towards the Titans.
The stab-and-swinging motion from the wire that was shown in the original work will be part of the action as well. Again, you’ll hardly ever touch the ground while fighting, which is another way that the game will stick true to the original work.
Once you get a Titan with a wire, you can move around them. Since attack damage is determined on speed and timing, you’ll need to press X to boost and triangle to attack in good timing to take Titans out in one blow.
The blades and 3D Maneuver Gear gas will deplete over usage. The wire shooting distance will also vary depending on the weapon.
Weapons have parameters in durability, sharpness, gas, wires shooting distance, and mobility speed. You’ll get to customize according to your play style.
There are Japanese-style blades and numerous other original weapons.
Defeating a Titan will sometimes result in the appearance of soldiers that got swallowed, and you’ll get to acquire some items.
Resources also drop from Titans. You’ll use this to upgrade or create new weapons.
A Titan’s weak spot is their nape, but destroying all of their parts such as arms and legs will give you a chance at getting some good rewards.
By using each character and increasing their proficiency, they’ll unlock new skills.
Most of the buildings in the city can be destroyed.

During the game, players will have to keep an eye on their weapons stability and the amount of gas that is left behind. Besides this, they will be able to customize their weapons’ durability, sharpness, gas capacity, wire shot range, and movement speed with new items. The game will include a large number of original weapons and more weapons and items can be obtained by killing Titans and through the “Investigation Outside the Walls Mode” in Attack on Titan. Attack on Titan will be released this year for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita in Japan, North America and Europe.

No matter how many Japanese games I play on my Vita, I don’t think I’ll ever understand the appeal of the Senran Kagura series. To be sure, I kind of enjoyed the goofy fun of the Bon Appetit rhythm game spin-off, but that wasn't enough to retroactively redeem Shinovi Versus, as far as I was concerned. Ask me about anything else — whether it's Monster Monpiece, or Conception II, or Akiba's Trip, or any number of visual novels — and I can get why people might enjoy them, but everything about the Senran Kagura series leaves me baffled. Needless to say, this bafflement continues with Senran Kagura Estival Versus.
I mean, I get that the people who really love these games do so for the titillation factor. If you're into scantily-clad barely-pubescent schoolgirls who are prone to losing all their clothing at the slightest gust of wind, then…uh…I guess that this is a way of indulging that love without getting onto all kinds of sketchy government watchlists. But at the same time, such lovers of overly-buxom teens are aware of the entire rest of the internet, right? It feels like there must be ways of indulging in this kind of stuff without having to slog through all the nonsense that goes along with it here.

Because seriously, Senran Kagura Estival Versus features a whole lot of nonsense. For a game that, in theory, is sort of about brawling, the combat here is dull and uninspired, full of moves that don't chain together particularly well and specials that trigger at the slightest tough but aren't particularly interesting to pull off or to watch. I suspect I'm probably overthinking it, seeing as the whole point of fighting in a Senran Kagura game is to a) knock your enemies' clothes off and b) power-up so that you can see your chosen girl's naughty bits covered by strategically-placed light spots, but still: if you want a fun brawler, this game clearly doesn't deliver on that front.
Not that Estival Versus is much better when it comes to the story or its characters, of course. The game is filled with the sort of walking clichés that you'd expect from a mindless Japanese game, only since this is a Senran Kagura game they also spout the kind of gibberish I guess passes for "sexy" to people who like these games. That means, of course, endless references to BDSM and schoolgirl lesbianism, all delivered in ways that are either offensive, stupid, or — most frequently — offensively stupid.

I'd like to think that I tried to like Senran Kagura Estival Versus. It's not my cup of tea, but I'd like to think I have an open enough mind that I can still see the good in games that I wouldn't usually like. In this case, though, I just don't get it, since there are so many other better options out there — definitely in terms of video games, and I have to assume the same goes for the bouncing anime schoolgirl boobs, too.

Senran Kagura Estival Versus review for PS Vita, PS4

-
No matter how many Japanese games I play on my Vita, I don’t think I’ll ever understand the appeal of the Senran Kagura series.

Quantum Break is now out on Windows 10 PCs and on Xbox One, and as many feared, the PC version of the game is a total and absolute mess. There are multiple issues that seem to afflict the game on a fundamental level, and make it unplayable for all but the most knowledgeable users and players.

However, these issues are being looked into- in a post on the NeoGAF forums, Remedy Entertainment head of PR Thomas Puha assured players that the team is aware of the issues in the PC version, and looking to fix them.

“We are monitoring the discussion and what is going on,” Puha said. “I had written a longer response, but it’s just gonna be misunderstood etc, so what I will say is that, rest assured, lot of of work went into the Win10 version and we are looking at the reactions now as well as potential issues.”

Of course, the question is if a lot of work went into the PC release, why is it as broken as it is? Hopefully Remedy fixes these issues, and fast. And hopefully Microsoft stops releasing half assed and incomplete ports (that the community can’t even fix, because of how locked down UWP is), and starts treating PC seriously, if they want it to become a pillar of their gaming ecosystem.

Featuring nearly 450 rooms and six mini-games
Lumo, an ode to old-school isometric games, is coming to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita as a cross-buy title on April 22, developer Triple Eh announced.

The isometric arcade adventure game is inspired by classic isometric titles like Knight Lore, Head Over Heels, Amaurote, Chimera, and Solstic & Equinox, and attempts to answer the question, “What would those games be like today?”

Lumo offers nearly 450 rooms split across four different zones, including secret paths, hidden rooms, ducks to rescue, coins to collect and spend, and six mini-games to find and unlock. There’s a Time Trial mode, too.

“It’s not just about getting from start to finish,” Triple Eh founder Gareth Noyce said on the PlayStation Blog. “Instead, it’s going to reward your exploration skills. Try and jump out of rooms and bend the game mechanics. Who knows, maybe you’ll be the first person to find all the cassettes and complete the mini-games?”

Top notch gaming without the pricetag
It's all very well everyone releasing these AAA and indie titles all the time for the PS4, but we're literally not made of money. We might treat ourselves to a new game every month or so, but realistically everyone deserves a new game more frequently than that - it's just our bank balance that doesn't cooperate.

Thankfully, the PS4 now has a steadily growing free-to-play section of the PlayStation Store, where you can find some awesome games that you can play without having to spend any money at all.

Plus, there's not a Candy Crush wannabe in sight.

So here they are, our top pick of the best free games to play on PS4.

7. Planetside 2

Planetside 2 originally launched on PC back in 2012, where it's been well loved by its players. This massively multiplayer online first person shooter (MMOFPS) finally launched on PS4, giving the patient console gamers a slice of the Planetside 2 pie.

The gameplay is straightforward enough, but the real appeal of Planetside 2 is its scale. Thousands of gamers can draw together, split into three factions and then fight to control the game's territory. It's like a multiplayer Battlefield game but with over 10 times the players.

There are in-game purchases if you want to spend a few pence, but developer Daybreak makes sure the game stays balanced whether you fork out a few quid or you don't. Our recommendation is just come and have some fun, because there's absolutely no reason to spend anything.

6. Invokers Tournament

Although Invokers Tournament is pitched as a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, this title is actually more like a cross between Diablo andDOTA. The gameplay doesn't quite have the complexity of top-notch MOBAs like League of Legends or DOTA 2, but this is an excellent "baby's first MOBA" that works really well on PS4.

And what's more, it's entirely free to play. You can spend real-world money on customisation options, in-game currency and a strange subscription. But, in reality, any money you spend is just enhancing the game's convenience and cosmetics. Everything else is available for free.

5. War Thunder

Don't be put off by the rather steep learning curve that comes with tackling War Thunder on PS4, because this free-to-play title makes you become the king of the skies. This is an excellent example of online simulation of combat by air and by land during WWII, and its larger-than-life attitude makes it an epic PS4 title.

We've lost ourselves for days in its intense combat, ridiculous amount of vehicles, wide scope and challenging difficulty settings. We've not even touched on the extensive upgrade paths for said vehicles, all of which are accessible for free.

It's one of those games that becomes more rewarding the more you play, so get stuck in.

PS4 fans have a lot of good things to look forward to as Sony has revealed the games it will release this year. With "Final Fantast XV," "No Man's Sky," "Ratchet & Clank," "MLB The Show 16," "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided," and "Horizon Zero Dawn" in horizon, to say that the PS4 gaming experience will be riveting is an understatement. However, for the fans of the third-person shooter game "Uncharted," there are just so many things to look forward to as the game's sequel, "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," will feature big improvements that will make PS4 gaming even more awesome.
"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is an action-adventure video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Originally expected for a 2015 release, "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" will finally be out in May this year.

The delay in the release is only proof that the team behind its development is pouring all their creative juices that they can in order to bring the game a notch higher from its predecessor. With Sony and Naughty Dog releasing a teaser as to what the fans can expect from "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," it has become more apparent how awesome it will be.

"Uncharted 3" didn't sit well with some gamers as they could not easily progress in the game because of the number of enemies that they encounter. However, things are about to change as, according to Naughty Dog, the enemies featured in "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" can identify their place in a given environment and tactically assess the 3D geometry on the fly. Without question, this bodes well for more exciting shooting encounters for the fans of the "Uncharted" games.

"Nathan Drake will be tested to his physical limits… his resolve, and ultimately what he's willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves. In the end: was it all worth it?" goes the description of the game.

BATTLEFRONT'S hugely anticipated virtual reality experience 'will be very different to the PS4 game' and PlayStation fans could be playing it this October.

BATTLEFRONT: The Star Wars VR game could be a launch title for the PlayStation VR headset

Earlier this month Sony announced the release date and price of their coveted VR headset, formally known as Project Morpheus.

But tucked within the big announcement at the Games Developers Conference was a small mention of a Star Wars Battlefront collaboration.

It not only caught the world off guard, but also promised the ultimate virtual reality experience.

Since the reveal, Sony's Vice president of marketing John Koller sat down for a interview with Fortune to discuss Battlefront's PlayStation VR game and said it could be a "killer app" for the system.

"We are working with EA, DICE, Lucasfilm, and Disney to try and make that experience something so special and so intrinsic to what's in many people's DNA, which is, 'How can I be in that world of Star Wars?'" Koller said.

"Battlefront is going to be one of those games that will really show gamers what it means to be in the world of VR.

It's very special. And just by the nature of it being designed as a VR experience, it's going to be very different than the PlayStation 4 game."

Currently the Battlefront VR game will be exclusive to PlayStation VR and later in the interview Koller also compared the role of traditional console exclusives and how it relates to the VR market.

"The role of exclusive VR games is a little different than what we see in the general console space," Koller said.

"For example, I don't believe that there needs to be one particular killer app. There can be a range of killer apps.

"VR is so personal. It really depends on what experience that person wants and what they think is really great.

"That's different than our (console) platform launches, where you generally can say, 'That's the game' (that will help drive hardware sales)."

In other Star Wars Battlefront related news, fans (or more specifically Season Pass holders) have been enjoying the new Outer Rim DLC.

For anyone who's been living under a rock for the past two months, the new Outer Rim DLC brings a load of new features to the game: four new maps, two new hero characters, new guns and Star Cards, as well as a brand "extraction mode".

There will be a new map added to Tattooine and Sullust, as well as one set in Jabba's palace and another in a smelting factory.

The two new characters will be instantly recognisable to fans of the franchise: bug-eyed bounty hunter Greedo and Sullustan smuggler Nien Nunb will be joining the lineup.

As mentioned, this digital expansion to the game is now available to all Season Pass holders.

But everyone else will have to wait a little longer.

No exact date has been given, but a leak from Gamespot seemed to suggest this content will now be available on April 5 for roughly £10 for all non-Season Pass holders.
NEW HEROES: Two iconic Star Wars characters have also been added to the game

Looking beyond the Outer Rim DLC and Battlefront players can look forward to at least three further expansions to enhance their gaming experience.

The first, Bespin, is planned for launch in Summer and is to focus on Cloud City and could see the inclusion of Lando and possibly Chewbacca as new hero characters.

Following that the Death Star DLC is planned for some time between September and November and is rumoured to see the likes of Obi Wan Kanobi joining the game.

There's also plans for a fourth and final update coming in early 2017 but so far EA have not given away any details of that release.

GAME Wire rumours mill this week includes a GTA 6 update, the PS4 4K console CONFIRMED and more Red Dead Redemption 2 details

Grand Theft Auto 5 is still dominating the gaming landscape since its original launch but there appears to be plans afoot for the next instalment, GTA 6.
According to new reports, GTA 6 has been confirmed as being in production at Rockstar, although it is still in the very early stages.
It seems strange to talk about the next instalment in the popular series while GTA Online continues to show its popularity among fans - it is still one of the most talked about games on Twitter.
However, as two years has already past since the GTA 5 was let into the wild, it makes sense that will would start moving on Grand Theft Auto 6.
There is currently no word on where it will be set, although TechRadar has revealed that the series look set to carry on in North America.
Even though the development team has tinkered with the idea of other places in the world, it appears the franchise has become too embedded in its own car brands and mythology to contemplate such a big move.
The big question will be whether GTA 6 comes with its own online mode, it would make a lot of sense for GTA Online 2 to be its own standalone product, due to its huge success
A new PS4 console is being worked on by Sony that includes some pretty impressive stats.
The PlayStation 4.5 is real, according to Eurogamer and Kotaku, and will include 4k gaming capabilities.
The latest reports confirm that Sony are indeed looking at refreshing their current PS4 modelhalfway through its lifecycle, but the same sources also question what added power it could offer.
"While more GPU power is being offered to developers, realistically it is nowhere near enough to provide native 4K gaming at the same quality level as current 1080p titles," a report from Digital Foundry states.
"The full extent of the spec is a current focus of enquiry for us, but realistically, it is simply impossible to cram the equivalent of today's top-end PC graphics hardware into a console-sized, mass-market box."
The PS4 4K looks set to include an upgraded GPU for 4K resolution support and more processing power for the PlayStation VR.
Sony has yet to confirm its existence or even broach the subject of a new console in public.
More Red Dead Redemption 2 news this week includes a potential new source confirming the existence of the PS4 and Xbox One title.
Since the rumours started running again on the subject of an E3 announcement and a 2017 release date, a recent LinkedIn Profile for a former Rockstar Games Senior 3D Artist who left the company last year has been creating some buzz.
According to the online profile, the employee worked on "Grand Theft Auto V" "Midnight Club: Los Angeles" and "Red Dead Redemption 2".
The last game has since changed, with the '2' now removed and an explanation from the former Rockstar employee.
The profile now states: “During these years I received many good reviews from supervisors (NOT for spelling XD)”.
The explanation sounds pretty reasonable, although gamers online are still debating whether adding a 2 at the end of something is really something people do.
All eyes will be on Rockstar's parent publisher, Take-Two at E3, with CEO Strauss Zelnick confirming earlier this year that they would be there "in a big way".

Epic Games’ Paragon is a free to play shooter/MOBA, making their newest title unlike anything else that the studio that brought us Gears of War and Unreal Tournament has done before. The game is available now in Early Access on Steam, as well as on PlayStation 4; and so far, the official line has been that the game will remain console exclusive to the PlayStation 4.

However, according to something that was noticed in Epic’s presentation on Paragon for GDC 2016, that last bit might not actually be true- the presentation, which got very technical, at one point discussed parallelizing the game’s renderer. Which is all well and good, but the the parallel command list generation and translation includes Xbox One among the list of platforms- implying that the game has, at least, been programmed taking the Xbox One into account, too.

If this is true, then I wonder exactly when the Xbox One version of the game might launch.

We also learned that the PS4 version of the game will be running at 900p- this is a shame, especially since PS4 games generally do manage to hit 1080p resolution, rather than the contrived 900p solution that is necessary on weaker systems. But with the game looking as gorgeous as it does, it is probably too taxing even for PS4’s hardware for it to run properly.

Paragon is available now on PS4 and PC.

It's been a whirlwind week with Nintendo NX rumors and then an obvious fake "leak" that preyed on peoples' heightened interest enough to gain some steam before it was admitted as a fib a few days later. So sorry to whiplash your neck back towards the "totally true and real!" side of new console scuttlebutt, but remember the "PS4.5?"

Following up last week's report that Sony is working on a more powerful mid-generation upgrade of its PS4, Eurogamer has independently confirmed with multiple sources that the upgrade is real. And while last week we had the word "exploratory" to chew on, according to Euogamer, "Sony's R&D labs have prototype devices," which is a lot more tangible (and more painful to chew, all the plastic and metal bits).

The story also leans towards calling it the "PS4K" over the "PS4.5," which is: 1) a better name and 2) makes sense with the supposed goal of the console being able to support 4K gaming (the game resolution would be about 4 times bigger than your 1080P games). But it also doesn't make sense as a consumer-facing name because 4K doesn't have the same mainstream resolution -- unless those gold "4K" tags I've seen on TVs at Costco have burned the term into peoples' minds already.

Regardless, it looks like Sony isn't sitting on its sizeable lead this generation. Microsoft did it two years after the 360 release with the 360 Elite. Nintendo's done it with 3DS. Sony typically releases mid-generation iterations aiming towards smaller form factor (there are three kinds of PS3), but the PS4 is already fairly small and attractive. On the other hand, if Sony believes in VR more than all the other innovations it abandons, the beefier PS4 could help power the resource-intensive PlayStation VR to help it compete with Oculus's Rift and Steam's VR hat.

Additionally, aiming at the "hardcore" demographic (the kind that buys a 360 Elite on name alone) -- many of whom likely already own the fast-selling console -- could make for easy money just on upgrades (at a higher price point). That same audience might be impressed enough by potential 4K capabilities (and better graphics in general, more on-screen effects and whatnot) if online resolution obsession is any indication.

I think the fear is that as seasonal gadget buying/upgrading becomes more commonplace with new, expensive cell phones seemingly every four months, gaming hardware, long prized for its "just works" simplicity and consistency, could go down the same route. After all, there has been talk of Xbox One hardware upgrades, as well.

At what point is it a problem for you? Almost a year in and only two New Nintendo 3DS games are actually exclusive to the upgraded hardware. If it firmly splits the release market, I'm assuming that's a problem (by "forcing" paying for the upgrade rather than leaving you the decision*), right? If it just means the two are optimized separately and one looks a bit nicer, but we're still all getting the same games, that's chill, yeah? I mean, I stayed with the ugly, grey original Nintendo DS design from launch. I'm not buying a more powerful PS4 for kicks. At which point this wouldn't be any different from any console generation, which usually sees new consoles that aren't strictly necessary, but an option for those who want them.

But if it does end up meaning I'd have to buy another, new console to play a game I want to play, I will grouse endlessly.

*Of course this use of "force" is assuming you simply must play games, and as close to release and newness as possible

Today sees the launch of Trackmania Turbo, Ubisoft's racer for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Well, it does unless you preordered the game on PS4. Oddly, an issue specific to the PS4 is locking preorderers out of the game, only letting them play the trial version.

A thread reporting the problem appeared on Sony's forums yesterday, with Stone_Henge_ saying that:

"I preordered Trackmania Turbo yesterday for $62NZ. I went to play it this morning and it said that i am only playing the trial version and i need to pay another $69NZ to unlock the full game."

After ten pages of responses from other people experiencing the same problem, a community manager from Sony, KingGabbo, replied to say it was aware of the problem:

"We are aware of an issue affecting pre-orders of Trackmania Turbo where users are unable to access the full game. We are working on a resolution and will update you as soon as we have any further information."

Eurogamer reports that its readers have been told by Sony to "restore licenses" but that this hasn't solved the issue.

If you didn't preorder the game then you should be able to play fine.

It might not seem that long ago but it was back in 2013 when Sony first gave us the PlayStation 4. Time for an update? It's early for a console but developers are talking about a PlayStation 4.5 or PS4K, that's being developed right now.

According to developer sources the PS4.5 is under construction at Sony HQ. It's rumoured to be dealing out a major graphical processing boost.

It's unclear if this will be a new console, an upgrade to the current model, or some halfway software advance between the two. Although it sounds like the GPU at least is getting an overhaul.

There is also the chance that it will simply be a slimmer PS4 as appeared with the PS3.

So what can we expect from the PS4K and when will it be here? And why isSony reportedly working on it already?
Sony PlayStation 4K: What will it bring?

The developer sources that have talked about Sony's PlayStation 4.5 plans have affectionately referred to it as PS4K. This is, obviously, because it has a big focus on 4K content.

The current PS4 can manage to play 4K video and images for personal content only. But owing to HDCP 2.2 issues support for streaming content like Netflix still isn't available, let alone HDR and HFR support. Neither is 4K gaming with current power limitations.

The PS4.5 could be a new console that offers 4K video streaming for the likes of Netflix with support for future advances in HDR and HFR. It could also hail the advent of 4K console gaming.
Sony PlayStation 4K: How will it arrive?

The thought of an entirely new console so soon after the first is a bit much. More likely, since developers are talking about Sony offering more processing power, it'll be a GPU upgrade.

Sure, this might still come in the form of a new console packing the latest GPU, and likely new HDMI 2.0a ports that play nice with HDCP 2.2.

As a fix Sony might offer a trade-in program for older consoles. Or, as a fan-friendly affordable option Sony may release a hardware add-on. This extra unit could upgrade the GPU for power, plus it could feature the correct ports for outputting to 4K UHD screens.
Sony PlayStation 4K: Gaming in 4K

One thing you can't do right now with a PS4 is game in 4K. While PCs are able to support that resolution, to cram that kind of hardware into a console sized unit is tough, at a reasonable price.

A GPU upgraded console or add-on should allow for game developers to push harder graphically. We're still skeptical about full frame rate 4K gaming being supported though. That said, this whole PS4.5 leak has come from game developers sharing that Sony is promising more 4K power from its future hardware.
Sony PlayStation 4K: Enhanced VR support

Sony will release its PS VR headset in October to bring virtual reality to consoles. While a host of titles have been announced for release, to coincide with the hardware arrival, there are still ways to improve.

Latency and resolution are important when you're looking at a headset right in front of your eyes. By enhancing power on the console the VR experience of the future should be more convincing for the viewer, theoretically.

Power has certainly been the centre of conversations surrounding competing PC-based VR systems and a boost to the console’s capabilities will also help PS VR remain competitive.
Sony PlayStation 4K: When will it arrive?

While we're tempted to say that Sony could release the PS4K in time for the company's PS VR release, and also in time for Christmas, that's being hopeful.

The original source of the PS4K leak said the device felt "exploratory" so there is the chance that it may not even be released this year.
